1.3 Networking with DSE Specialists

Just as it is important to orient oneself towards exemplary editions, it is also important to network with the DSE research communities, be it on a local, national or international level.

Networking may seem easier than it is. To date, there is no comprehensive overview of all institutions relevant to DSE in German-speaking countries, let alone in Europe or worldwide. Instead of listing individual institutions or chairs (which would have to remain incomplete in the long term), here we reference existing collections and umbrella organizations. Taken together, they provide a good overview of the German-speaking world. We would be happy to expand these references (please contact the authors).

DSE Competence Centres

The e-editiones association is an international community specifically focused on the TEI-Publisher. It provides a slack-channel and regular online community-meetings where questions about the tool, DSE workflows, and more general topics can be discussed.

German-speaking Countries

The international Institute for Documentology and Editorial Studies i-d-e can serve as a contact point for various questions and maintains a list of its cooperation partnerships and members.

Linked to i-d-e is the journal RIDE, A review journal for digital editions and resources, which regularly publishes reviews on digital editions and similar DH topics.

Austria

The KONDE White Paper provides an overview of mostly Austrian institutions.

Switzerland

The Center for Digital Editions & Editions Analytics (CDE) at the University Zurich offers an important collection of services in German-speaking Switzerland, organized by workflow phase and supplemented with relevant tools.

Experience from the showcase edition

We have worked closely with the CDE from the outset and have been able to gather many ideas for the showcase edition through networking with ongoing DSE projects. Participation and networking at DSE-specific conferences such as "Open up DSE" have also significantly advanced the project.

Germany

In Germany, one possible contact is Text+, a national research consortium that offers services for working with digital text data in a scholarly context. The national research consortium NFDI4Culture offers similar services, but its focus extends beyond text-based data to include various media forms of culture.

Digital Humanities Communities of Interest

National and international networks that primarily focus on research policy goals (and only marginally also methodological and technical issues) are listed below. These are not communities of interest specifically for DSE, but they do have various competencies in this subject area.

  • DARIAH-CH: The Swiss node of the pan-European research infrastructure Digital Research Infrastructure for Arts and Humanities.

  • DARIAH-EU: The DARIAH umbrella organzsation that coordinates the national DARIAH consortia in Europe.

  • digital humanities in German-speaking countries: The professional association for DH research in German-speaking countries.

  • EADH, the European Association for Digital Humanities and its associate organizations.

  • ADHO, the international Alliance of Digital Humanities Organizations.
